Knight Games

Those of you who go/went to BYU-- do you know about the Quill and Scroll club? Well they ALWAYS dress in medieval period garb and sometimes you see them with big wooden swords having fights on the lawn. They're real serious about what they do. A friend of mine had the "King" of the club in his ward and he even wore a crown almost 24/7. They are...well...interesting. I'm not trying to denigrate the Quill and Scroll club--I'm just trying to give you a picture of what they are. (Denigrate was the dictionary.com word of the day today meaning: to attack the reputation of, or defame.) Anyway, last night BYU put on an event called Knight Games---home sweet home for the Quill and Scroll club. Rose dipping, chain mail making, sword fighting, a labryinth and a masquerade sounded like a lot of fun to me too-- AND it was free which was the real selling point. It was one of those things were you think....that was kind of cool.....or weird. We had a lot of fun though, and I think Brett is even seriously considering joining the Quill and Scroll club now. Okay, maybe not :).

I met up with some of my NZ friends: Marcie, Cameron, Kirsten and Becky (Becky is a sister of an NZ friend).

We spent most of the night with Jenny and Daniel. They are so much fun to hang out with.

This is Jenny and Daniel entering the Labryinth. We even had to answer 2 riddles in order to continue through the maze and then to get out.

This is my homemade chain mail--it could protect me in a sword fight. Do you believe me?

This is called 'boffering'. They made padded swords and shields and we just beat each other up with them. We played it like army dodgeball. If you got hit in the leg you had to hop, then if you got hit in the other leg you had to kneel.

Wow. It looks like I'm going to boffer someone to death. I didn't try to look that angry. Promise.

I am so happy we got to play with you last night and meet your man :) We should definitely make it a point to play more often.

My friend calls those people "Carnies". I was never really a carny. I had friends who were. They got me interested in Calligraphy and illumination (the artwork that decorates calligraphic scrolls) The sword fighting was pretty interesting too. Then they invited me to an "event". It really creeped me out. We left after about 20 minutes, and I never returned. It frightened me the most that carnies never seem to stop being carnies. It may be fun for like an hour a week, but not 24/7.

I AM PECULIAR (this is a permanent post. If you have already read it, scroll down to see my latest)

Those of you who read my blog could probably make a list of all the reasons that you think I am a bit peculiar. No worries, I would be the first to shout an amen to everything you could think of. I know I’m peculiar; but let me tell you the number one thing on my list that I think makes me a peculiar person.

I know where I come from, why I am here and where I am going. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Some of you will know me as a “Mormon” although that is just a nickname. The word ‘Saint’ just means ‘member’ in this context. I believe in God the Eternal Father, that I am a daughter of God, and that He loves me and wants me to be happy. I believe in my Savior Jesus Christ who lived a perfect life, atoned for my sins, died and was resurrected all that I might enjoy the blessing of being forgiven of my sins, and having my body and spirit reunited after death. I know that just as God called prophets in the Old and New Testament times that He has in fact called a prophet to lead and guide us today. I believe that families can live together for eternity; death does not have to be the end of our relationships with the ones we love. Some of you may wonder how on earth I can know these things. As I learn more and more from the Bible and other scriptures and actually live what I learn I see the promises the Lord has made being fulfilled in my life, and I feel the Holy Spirit bear witness that these things are true.

I know, I’m peculiar, but thankfully there are over 13 million other peculiar members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and with each year that number grows. I feel so much joy and happiness in my life because of this knowledge. If you want to know more depth about anything I have said that makes me peculiar, visit www.mormon.org. This website explains in detail much of what I have just professed to believe and more.
